Both right and left paths take you to Lady Isabella. After rescuing her, I return to take the left path to get one of the most useful items in the game. The chalice converts your stars into hearts.

Let me explain the chalice room: The skeletons don't hurt or attack you. They merely walk left and right, pushing the jars as they go. You want to be careful with the jars, because you might push them up into the path of either of the doors, which will block your progress. You need to go right to collect the hammer. That hammer is to be used on the barrel blocking the arrow from the skeleton in the upper left room. That skeleton will trip a plate. You need to step on that plate, but you can't go back, so you need that skeleton to do it. After that, you need to get rid of the two reapers. You can't destroy them with your weapons, so you need to have them shoot at each other. After that, you just need to wander through the jars a few times to get a key, trip another plate, and finally collect the chalice.

There's also a boomerang to collect, which is an OK throwing weapon.

The monster guarding the Lady can paralyze you and shoots lightning.
