In Dwarf Fortress (and now, I suppose, in RimWorld), nobles are just wastes of resources. They don't do anything to contribute to the colony, they don't do anything of any real value, and they mostly just make unreasonable demands at inopportune times. If there comes a time when we have to sacrifice one person for the safety and security of all, I'm "volunteering" the noble to be the first to go.
