0Maximilian tells a story about himself. A story of growing up as a bastard of the Emperor. When his mother was assassinated to shrink competition for the throne, he vowed revenge. There are a lot of problems with this, but a really big one is the way that he decided to treat his new subjects. He decided to conquer other countries and destroy livelihoods across an entire continent because he didn't like a few rich brats killing his mom. His revenge could be justified, but his plot stopped when he became the ruler of the empire. And yet, he continued to try and conquer more people and spread influence without thinking about the economic implications of destroying farm lands around the continent as well as every other industry. This man is the definition of bourgeois. But the excuse Welken gives for his ultimate loss is one that ignores all of the proletariat destruction he caused.
