Valkyrie Profile was developed by tri-Ace (creators of Star Ocean) for the original PlayStation and was first released in Japan on December 22, 1999 (North American release: August 29, 2000). I'm playing the NTSC-U/C version of this game on original discs.

Currently, it's difficult to find this game's PS1 release and it will no doubt be incredibly expensive if you happen to find it at all. A port of this game was developed for the PSP called "Valkyrie Profile: Lenneth". I'm not sure if this version is as rare as the PS1 version but it's still expensive, even for a "brand new" game (around 80$ for a complete version at the time of writing this).
