Vanishing Point is an excellent cross between an arcade-style "driving" game and racing simulation combo. You don't exactly race against the computer, but aim to beat the best times they've placed on a lap while avoiding crazy obstacles... it's not like classics like Daytona USA though... it's kinda hard to describe. There are a few stages to unlock, a variety of licensed cars, several modes, and the Dreamcast version isn't just a slight upgrade of the Playstation game in the audio/video department like so many games released on Playstation and Dreamcast; the game is BEAUTIFUL and really takes advantage of the hardware. It runs at a fast 60FPS and has pretty good lighting and shading.

This is a game that really must truly be played to enjoy it to the fullest and truly shine as EVERYTHING is locked by default. If you've ever played "Battle Assualt 3" for PS2, it's like that; the game has loads to offer, but you start with virtually nothing. When you unlock more stuff in the game, it'll feel more like a GT car sim and less like an arcade-style racer.

The game's controls take getting used to, but there is at least SOME rhyme or reason to them; it's not like some games where there isn't any kind of learning curve and you're just screwed. Once they're learned, you'll look pretty sweet skidding along on purpose at 150mph on an almost impossibly sharp turn... can you do it!? Sure can. Some cars have better steering than others (the one in this video has some of the most sensitive steering of the vehicles in the game). The soundtrack is also quite nice if you're into a lot of techno and trance... I remember getting contacted once by the person who composed the game's music. Good stuff.

This video was originally uploaded back in early '09, but is one of the videos I currently have on my "do over" list. It looks WAY better than before and gives this game's slick visuals some justice. There are also no Dazzle glitches this time... thank freakin' lord. This is a sample of the game in action. Enjoy.
