Vectrex Retro Review - The Best Failed Console?
Vectrex console review. I love these, they look like a baby arcade machine, and that's basically what they are. Still fun to have, still great to play.
Unlike other non-portable video game consoles of the 70's and 80's, which connected to televisions and rendered raster graphics, the MB Vectrex has an integrated vector monitor which displays vector graphics. The Vectrex is monochrome (no colours here mate), and uses plastic screen overlays to simulate color and various static graphics and decorations.
At the time, many of the most popular arcade games used vector displays, and through a licensing deal with Cinematronics, GCE was able to produce high-quality versions of arcade games such as Space Wars and Armor Attack. These ports are so much better than most of the competition. Just look at Pacman for the Atari!
No forgiving that joystick though, RIP to the big pile of broken ones.
