I've been having terrible performance for a while now from Vegas when using recordings from my Elgato card, stutters, missing sound and crashes, all seemingly caused by M4A files, the issue can be solved by converting your M4A files to MP3, I hope this helps someone as there was nobody I found suggesting this fix to my issue I can only assume someone else will have at some point.
