I got distracted while talking about locks and keys and didn't finish that train of thought. Talked about it some w/ Jenni afterward, and came to the conclusion that it's like this: A lock is an obstacle that bars progress to more content, and therefore is a puzzle -- the solution to which is finding the key. If you find the key first, then the puzzle is effectively wasted because you've solved it before you knew it existed.
