[VGM] Doom (SNES) - "Sign of Evil" (Extended 30m + SPC700 status)
6Did an extension of "Sign of Evil" from the SNES version of Doom.
This track initially plays in E1M7 (or E1M8 in all the other versions of Doom) which is codenamed "Phobos Anomaly", you can read more about this mapa in the wiki right over here: https://doom.fandom.com/wiki/E1M8:_Phobos_Anomaly_(Doom)
It also plays in E3M4 according to the ID666 tag info, but I haven't reached that part yet to confirm.
The soundtrack for this version of the game is still an absolute banger even if it's missing some tracks that never made it here and the game being a slight redux from the original, that mainly being due to the SNES' cartridge storage limit of 4 megabytes.
But I do like the sounds of the SNES samples a lot and this track of course, being filled with a feeling of dread and suspense.
It's also intriguing (like in previously shared videos) how the voice values are mostly fixed except that they randomly change into 9 and revert back to the previous value very quickly, I've come to find out this is tied to the use of a "sound driver" which is like an interface that sends the notes of an instrument to the SNES, to put it in layman's terms. Doom uses a special version of a driver known as BMus, and so far I've found out that most games that use this driver show this special behavior with the voices, as well as them also using the three envelope types shown in the video.
