Victoria 3 Paradox Interactive's newest game has been out for just over a month, and I wanted to revisit my thoughts on the game and say if you should or should not buy it, if you should wait for the steam sale and my general thoughts one month later on Victoria 3! Tell me what y'all think of VIC3, VIC3 MP and how VIC3 compares to VIC2 especially with how different VIC3 military is...

It has been just over one month since Paradox Interactive’s newest game Victoria 3 has come out, and reviews have been mixed. On one hand most of the professional game reviews have given Victoria 3 high praise, but many fans have been not entirely amazed. The real question you may be asking if you have waited for around a month or are trying to understand if you made the right purchase, is should you buy vic3?
I would say this question diverges into two paths, which I have partially talked about in my Victoria 3 review, but Vic3 is a game which while the devs were quite clear on their vision still annoyed various fans of the Victoria Series, it started to lean highly away from Military which has been a stable of every other Paradox game, and focus almost solely on economy, with a semi decent diplomacy system. This left a lot to be desired, from the people who wanted more agency is military, colonization, diplomatic actions etc… but also went above and beyond previous paradox economy and trade simulators into almost a true world economic model (with a few glitches and problems, namely France having a treaty port with GB so free trade access to the British Market…)
The ai also suffers from various issues which can be ironed out by Paradox over time or partially through mods (helping to fix unrealistic US borders, Russia colonizing Africa, bad economies etc…) I would say if you want a economic simulator with a sprinkle of politics and diplomacy and just did not have time to pick up Victoria 3 so far, get it when you can and enjoy it, but if you have waited this long my answer is still the same try to get the game on sale or wait it out for the next major update which hopefully will solve some of the really pressing issues (I am looking at you warfare and maybe historicity)
When Victoria 3 came out I felt it was around a 6.5/10, and in retrospective on the past month, playing MP with friends and heavily messing with the game, while also looking at what others recommend, I still feel that the game is around that middling to good mark, not stellar but certainly not terrible, and an experience you can sink considerable time into, if you are interested in a economic and political game. Therefore, probably if you have waited this long on Victoria 3, it can’t hurt to wait a little longer, watch some youtube videos and vibe out playing eu4, victoria 2 or whatever game of choice you want (Ck2 is free after all and the Game of thrones mod is stellar), but you want to take a chance and have liked what you have seen go ahead and get it then! (Or wait until maybe the winter steam sale if paradox discounts it haha). Sincerely WonderProductions
