I tried capturing some video using the USB capture device that comes with Roxio Creator Special Edition 2009. Apparently it doesn't include a hardware encoder, so it relies on your PC to do a lot of the work. This is what happens when your PC isn't up to the job. Granted, I probably had anti-virus going, was running with hardly any free HD space, and I'm sure the hard drive was fragged like a bitch...but USB video capture devices with hardware encoders don't care about all that because the compression and video conversion is done on the hardware itself and just uses the USB to transfer the video to the hard drive.
