Violet Evergarden OP - Sincerely Piano Cover (Arr. Animenz)
I have invited my friend @Alexis Lin - Anime Piano Works to write the description this time since it's a very meaningful song for Animenz to arrange, which is also a song which so many people have been requesting for. This 9 min arrangement has included both sorrow and hope we have. Pray for kyoani.
"This song comes from the well-known anime , Violet Evergarden which is made by Kyoto Animation. Kyoani has always been good at describing the daily things in the normal life, and combine those little stories. Violet Evergarden is a perfect example. Unlike many over-commercial anime companies, Kyoani can always do a perfect job at details, emotions, and painting.
The protagonist of the story, Violet Evergarden, is an existence like a war machine who cannot understand any human emotions. She has made great achievements in many battles during the war and has killed countless enemy troops. But after meeting Major Gilbert, she was gradually influenced , and began to understand the what emotions are. With Major Gilbert’s help, she learned how to read and write, and how to care of herself. Unfortunately, Major Gilbert was eventually killed in one of the battles. After the war, Violet became a auto memory doll which helps people write letters. Through this job, she became able to know more and more people’s emotions and thoughts. She gradually understood the complexity of personalities. She want to know the meaning of “I love you” that Major Gilbert said to her before he died. Therefore, in this anime, there are too many touching stories.
Last week, on the first anniversary of the Kyoani fire accident , Animenz uploaded his Sincerely arrangement. The first half of this song narrates the fond memories that Kyoani brings to all anime fans. The quiet beginning shows that this song contains unique meanings since it began in a totally different way from the original song. The first chorus, with the right hand running, from weak to strong, reminded me of Kyoani’s development. At 2:04, I felt the milestones Kyoani has achieved in the anime industry, and the wonderful masterpieces it created. In the second verse, according to Animenz’s video description, it described the beautiful scene of Violet walking on the lake and floating under an umbrella. It’s such a beautiful and nostalgic passage.
Until 5:15, the music gradually weakened and began to mourn. The scenes of the Kyoani accident start to appear in my memories over again.
Kyoto Animation Company, which created so many masterpieces, suffered a devastating attack last year. 36 staffs died because of this accident. NHK reported that this may be the arson which cause the most victims in Japan in the past 30 years. Countless scripts was destroyed and the entire building was burnt. This is the darkest day in the history of anime. Haruhi Suzumiya, Clannad, Air, K-ON, Violet Evergarden, etc, all those masterpieces are sincerely made by Kyoani. The fire not only ruined many efforts, but also put 36 families into endless pain and sorrow. When I heard the news, I was so angry.
A few weeks later, I arrived in Japan visited the studio which got burnt to present flowers. A beautiful yellow building has turn in to a tragic black and brown building, and was completely enclosed. The community set up a small shed next to the studio for people to present flowers. After presenting flowers, I had a brief communication with the local policeman. When the policeman learned that I came from China, he bowed, "Thank you for coming to Japan." I couldn’t help crying.
However, we all believe that hope will eventually come after we suffer from pain and despair. After experiencing this tragic incident, Kyoani finally started to recruit staffs again, and the new movie was also on schedule. At this point, the whole song became full of hope and strength again. I hope Kyoani will stand up again after this terrible accident, with the will of the staffs that are passed away, with the mourning of the living, and with the blessings of the entire world, go on!"
