It's unfortunate that the term "walking simulator" automatically has a bad connotation to it. I personally love the genre, and consider What Remains of Edith Finch, Everybody's Gone to the Rapture, and Gone Home some of my favorite games of all time.

Virginia, unfortunately, is a mess. The art style does not convey emotion properly (in a game when nobody talks), the main story beats are too abstract to follow, and the purpose of the game is not quite clear. Metacritic is divided on this game, and I am too. I think this is a hard pass.
