Last June, my co-founder Wienke heard about a piece of hardware that would create coverage for Internet of Things devices without having to pay any licensing fees. He pitched the idea to me while drinking coffee to talk how things were going, and we decided almost immediately to start this together: the first open, crowd-sourced, community-driven and decentralized Internet of Things data network. In this presentation, I’d like to present the journey we made from that point, to pitching our ideas, creating the community and a culture, communicating our open source and open hardware vision with the point on the horizon to have global coverage in a few years using local communities all of the world and a Kickstarter campaign.
