There are secret codes to play as prototype versions of Temjin and Raiden in arcade mode. They are the same as their normal versions with the following exceptions:

- different color scheme and model number
- no air dash
- no vertical turn / Watari Dash
- no turbo attacks

This is a single-credit playthrough of Arcade mode on Very Hard with Prototype Raiden. I'm not very good with Raiden in the first place, but the CPU is almost as inept on Very Hard as it is on Normal. The only difficult part of the game with these settings is Tangram because of the lack of turbo attacks. The easiest way to defeat Tangram is to use jumping half-canceled lasers while the eye is open, and using both lasers whenever Tangram is about to fire its giant beam or close its eye.

To play as Prototype Temjin/Raiden, you must first clear Arcade mode with Temjin/Raiden without using a single continue. (On the Dreamcast version, you must also be playing v5.45 and have Fog Mode activated. There is no Fog Mode on the XBLA version.) Then, start a new game, move the selector to the following VRs on the VR Select screen in sequence, and press the left turbo button a specific number of times.
