Hah, interesting.
I have plans to update that old main menu level to something better, been meaning to for a long time.
As for replacing it. Well there isn't a whole lot of point to doing so, but sure I guess you can, as long as people understand the consequences.
Jacking the front end level also allows one to use a completely different UI(if you had one).
