Visions of the Scottish Highlands
4Musical inspiration comes from the most unexpected of places. The primary melody for this piece essentially came to me after listening to a segment on "Travel with Rick Steves" talking about hiking in the Scottish Highlands. It was playing on NPR one night as I drove home from work, and I rushed to write down the melody as soon as I could so I wouldn't forget it. Over the course of the next few weeks, I expanded the melody into a full piece.
If you go back and listen to the original podcast I listened to before writing the melody for this piece, you will notice a small snippet of the melody in one of the background pieces they play, but the rest of the melody is, to my knowledge, original. I am not exceptionally well-versed in the styles of Scottish folk music, but it fits within what I am familiar with. Hopefully I wasn't too far off.
