Super Metroid Custom Miniboss Sixth Iteration
9The sixth iteration of a custom miniboss I have been developing. This version makes a variety of graphical and performance improvements to the fight.
Once just a stationary image, the Sammer Guy is now animated, showing his movements when he spawns the swords, throws them at the ground, and throws shurikens into the arena. Additionally, the graphics for the shurikens have been smoothed over, making them look much cleaner. I have also added a slight glow to both the outline of the Sammer Guy and to his shield, giving the fight a slightly more ethereal feel.
On the technical side of things, I have fixed a bug where, at high damages, the boss would sometimes shake on top of Samus instead of resting directly above her. This happened due to the boss' increasing subpixel speed causing it to move two pixels at once directly over Samus, causing it to immediately reverse course. This issue has been fixed.
Additionally, the graphics for the swords and some of the parts of the Sammer Guy have been rearranged from 8x8 tiles into 16x16 tile sets, greatly reducing the amount of time needed to process the graphics. This has the effect of removing all of the lag in the fight.
