Gameplay structures are usually defined as being either linear, or non-linear (often with the implication that they are more 'open'), but as it’s possible for non-linear games not to be open world, I want to find a better word to describe games that fall somewhere in between.

In this video, we take a look at classic gameplay structures and analyze them visually while also positing other structures that fall into the gray area between 'linear' and 'open world.'

Games that are mentioned in this video range from Final Fantasy to Zelda, Demon Soul's to Jak and Daxter.
