One of the things that makes Captain Kuro so interesting is that he’s not just seeking treasure. Money is only part of it; what he wants is a different reality.

Captain Kuro is kind of like Descarte’s evil demon, and in our own lives, we’re all Kaya, accepting without choice the version of reality fed to us. Usopp challenges Captain Kuro’s authority by superseding his control over what Kaya is able to experience.

This is my reaction to and analysis of Volumes 3, 4, & 5 of One Piece.
