If I'm being honest, as I often am, this has never sounded much like a superheated-volcano background track, to me… I could picture it playing in some murky, smelly, poisonous bog. Of evil. Which explains the cursed enemies and the water plants and such.

(Of note is that Fi says the Cursed Spumes you encounter here are native to swamps and bogs, not volcanos. That’s a big part of what gives me this vibe.)

Maybe this was left over from a scrapped swamp level they were going to have before the Ancient Cistern or something, and they just threw the remaining elements into the Volcano Summit. Who knows?
