16Volgarr the Viking is this months Xbox One "Games with Gold" offering. Whilst I'm disappointed Microsoft have continued with only 1 Xbox One game offering each month over the promised two, Volgarr is a surprise gem.
Volgarr the Viking is a return to the Golden Age of arcade games where side scrolling platformers didn't pull any punches. When you died - that's it, start again. Created by Crazy Viking Studios and published by Adult Swim, Volgarr goes back to basics with simple controls, high challenge, and meticulous design. Combined with hand-made pixel animation, an epic soundtrack, and buckets of blood. You are guaranteed to be screaming at your screen in frustration but still keep coming back for "just one more go".
Games with Gold on Xbox offers free games to Xbox Gold users each month. Often these games are obscure indies you've never heard of. It's also likely that you may be like me, you redeem the free game because, hey, free stuff, but never get around to actually playing it, or even figuring out if it's worth playing.
That's where Gold Digger comes in. I will invest my time into what's free, figure out if it's good and report back each month, saving you valuable time in the process.
