In the opening days on the Iraq War in 2003, Colonel Tim Collins gave a rousing eve-of-battle speech to soldiers from the Royal Irish Regiment.

Now retired from the Army, he has been reflecting on a conflict still shrouded in controversy.

Col Collins has told Forces News that Iraq is probably not a better place as a result of the invasion, saying: "This was a war that went off -- nobody knew why. And to this day people are wondering why it ever happened."
