Warcraft: Orcs & Humans is a real-time strategy game developed and published by Blizzard Entertainment. It was released for MS-DOS in 1994, and for Mac OS in early 1996. The gameplay takes the basic RTS recipe established by Dune II two years before (gather resources, build your army, defeat your opponent) and expands on it with several new mission types - conquering rebels of the player's race, rescuing and rebuilding besieged towns, rescuing friendly forces from an enemy camp before destroying the main enemy base, and limited-forces missions, in which neither side can make further units, putting emphasis more on having a good overall game strategy than on brute force.
The game also has a multiplayer mode by dialup modem or local networks, enabling gamers with the MS-DOS and Macintosh version to compete against each other in skirmishes that are not part of campaigns, through a random map generator.
