Warhammer 40,000 Life Hack - Take Back Your 40k Games
No need for One Page Rules, the latest 40k edition or cringe Codex power creep?
Step 1 Aquire Warhammer 40,000 8th edition Rules published in 2017
Step 2 Aquire Warhammer 40,000 8th edition Index Books
Step 3 Aquire Warhammer 40,000 8th edition Imperial Armour Index Books
Step 4 Handle overly expensive force lists using the power values instead, which is very good for Eldar and Tyranid list balancing. Aquire Chapter Approved 2017 for points cost adjustments across Indexes if you are addicted to GW's poorly implemented points costs.
Now You have two options with figures
1. Play with standard 40k Models from most of the range made over the years plus any same scale proxies
or
2. Play in 6mm epic scale using offical epic models or proxies with the 1997 and onwards strip bases
see miniwars.co.uk/epic-40k for a list of proxies
stand out supplier from the list is

Epic 40k Strip bases

I prefer option 2
Apply these house rules for making your games fun and more balanced;
Instead of following standard rolling to see who goes first and carrying out alternating turns for your entire force or army
replace with
place the same uniquely coloured dice for all units per players force into a single opaque bag.
Role a D6 for every players force and add the following modifiers to the roll
+1 for every HQ unit still alive in the force
+1 if you are playing Tyranids,Craftworld Aeldari,Drukhari,Ynnari,Harlequins or the majority of units in your force are Legion of the Damned and / or Adeptus Custodes
Whoever gets the highest score can activate a single unit plus any attached character in it, first this turn (do not take out one of your coloured dice from the bag)
OR
Select a player on either side of the game to activate a single unit plus any attached character in it first this turn and take one of that forces coloured dice out of the bag and place it next to the unit once it has finished activating.
Keep rerolling Draws, still appying the modifiers until there is an a highest score for a winner.
After the first unit activation is complete keep blind pulling dice from the bag and activating a unit relating to the matching force, aginst the matching dice colours.
Carry out the blind dice pull until all units on the table and in reserve have carried out their activation.
Start a new turn and place all dice matching up with each surviving unit back into the bag and discard the rest. Carry out the above procedure until there is a victory according to the mission being played.
A good optional rule if using units from the Imperial Armour Indexes is to only allow activation of the super heavy types after all other units in your force have activated first. Agree, which units in the game will fall under this rule before the start of the game.
For playing with 6mm epic 40k miniatures, represent each five model base as a single minature for coherencey and cover. Round up unit size to the nearest five models if short of four or less from the index entry maximum allowance when building lists.
Use counters to mark wounds and casualites.
