19The next big thing from Privateer Press is here, and boy am I excited. Warcaster is a tabletop miniature skirmish combat game set in the distant future of the Iron Kingdoms, the magnificent setting of the companies bread and butter games, Warmachine and Hordes. The game sees players taking on the role of a Warcaster, an all powerful technomancer-like commander, teleporting their small group of soldiers down to the planets surface to do battle, and then supporting them from a distant orbit, not only with orders and commands, but with telekinetic spells and infusions of arcane galactic energy. That's right, this game seamlessly fuses sci-fi tech with arcane magic. The game itself combines all of the best mechanics things from Privateer Press's existing games, and seemingly drops the features that make those games feel daunting and bulky at times. It's got small armies, back and forth gameplay, quick and efficient combat resolution, player decks to randomize special powers, wonderful models to represent the vibrant factions of the setting, unique dice systems, re-spawning troops mid game to keep the fight going, scenario driven action... What more could you ask for.
