I was only watching YouTube videos when this glitch popped up, and the only thing that could have changed is the RAM usage, which I suspect is causing this. I thought it was a YouTube problem until I ran into other problems. Also the available storage dropped from 9 to 6 GB during filming, and this video is definitely less than that. Weird things happen when you run out of memory, perhaps bookmarks over tabs is right after all.
Time stamps for apps tested and effects summary:
0:00 YouTube - ads and videos skipped to 30+ hrs
1:08 KYM - all embedded videos end instantly with fast forwarded video
1:51 iMovie - editing area and media library skip to the end of the last clip
2:07 VLC - audio desync and scratches
2:36 Foobar2000 - segmented audio and scratches
3:22 Photos - videos sped up with no audio (previewing works fine)
3:36 Preview - videos sped up, full disp. skips to the end
3:53 Music - audio glitches (once) after random amounts of time
4:17 MuseScore3 - audio desync, repetition and scratches
Surprisingly, Audacity seems unaffected by this (perhaps because I opened it using Terminal). I should have tested Synthesia in hindsight, but since I needed to actually use my computer I had to restart it which fixed everything.
