Water Quality Testing Demonstration
I was volunteering at the lake at Crane's Roost at Altamonte springs. Today was a Water Awareness festival. My friend and I operated a booth for water quality testing. None of the other people working with me seemed to be too interested in operating the booth, so I took the initiative, and I did the demos.
We tested pH. I'm not sure if I mentioned it in the video, but pH is the measure of how many H+ there are in one liter, in terms of moles (6.022 x 10^23 number of something). Take the number, add a negative, and put it to 10 to the power of that number. That's how many moles there are of H+ per liter of substance.
If you know the ideal range of Dissolved Oxygen, please leave it in the comments below, so I can update this.
We did not test turbidity, as the water was clear enough anyways.
Of course, we did not test it in a perfectly controlled environment, as it was just a demonstration on why it is important to maintain the pH and dissolved oxygen in the water, not so much on what pH is or how to do an experiment in a controlled environment.
Thanks to Tracy, who did my amazing face painting. Thanks to the lady who was holding the camera for me.
Also, thank you Brad and Michael from Pinch a Penny Pool and Patio, in the Dr. Phillips area, for teaching me about water quality testing for pools a while back after 11 years of knowing you.
