We Need More Developers Like Supermassive Games (Kind Of)
The developers behind The Quarry, Until Dawn, and the Dark Pictures anthology games, Supermassive Games are preparing to lay off 90 workers. These game developers deserve better as they have given us amazing experiences unlike anything else time and time again.
The Quarry is the last big release from Supermassive and received critical and commercial acclaim, many finding it a proper follow up to Until Dawn. Until Dawn was their first original release and took the horror gaming community by storm, pretty much everyone enjoyed it for its cinematic experience.
In between major releases, Supermassive releases games in the Dark Pictures anthology series with season 2 of Dark Pictures to release soon. Season 1 of Dark Pictures consisted of Man of Medan, Little Hope, House of Ashes, and The Devil in Me, all of which received generally positive reviews.
The Casting of Frank Stone is their next release, based in the Dead by Daylight universe. Will the game face some backlash or be underwhelming in the wake of the layoffs happening throughout the gaming industry?
There are not a lot of developers making cinematic horror games and with the fate of Supermassive Games in a weird state after this drama, I'm incredibly disappointed because I think the gaming world deserves more amazing titles like Until Dawn and The Quarry.
