Website Gameplay [001] - Nick.com
So apparently I do "Website Gameplays" too, and i made bad decision on which one to do first. As you see, nick.com is dead. It's had an interesting history, and I REALLY hope DefunctLand can make a video about Nick.com if he could. Nick.com was first launched in October 1995, only available using AOL, hence why i couldn't find that version on the wayback machine. The earliest date you could try nick.com on the Wayback Machine is 12/19/96, but it says the site isn't available yet. Trying January 1997 will bring you to a website about the unpopular Natalie's Backseat Traveling Webshow, you can read the episode Axle Grease and download that low quality version of the theme song, April 1997's still has this, but at the beginning there is a screen showing that the Nick.com we know today is coming soon, and a cool gif with a stick figure is shown, and even cooler is that a catchy .midi of the Nickelodeon theme will play on that screen. Eventually sometime in mid to late 1997, the website was later available to all internet service providers and became a strong promotional tool for Nickelodeon. The popularity kept growing, as the website was getting bigger. in March of 1999, it became the highest rated website for children ages 6-14 years old. Back then the design was mainly images and image maps allowing navigation, aka 90s web designs. In June 2000, the website was expanded and redesigned, and used tons of Flash animated buttons and ads. I am a BIG FAN of Flash Nickelodeon website, it was clearly at its best back then IMO. Before the logo change, the one I'm most familiar with is the 2007-09 one, and that was also perfect. On September 27th 2009, the website was redesigned once the new logo was in effect, it wasn't the same as that awesome flash 2007-09, but flash games? Still being made, so no worries here. July 2014's redesign is when I start to be concerned, the shockwave games and many of the older flash games seemed to be removed, which was a bummer, HTML5 is fine, but atleast keep the flash stuff. Also the login feature got removed in 2016, thanks alot COPPA. However the WORST time for the site is on December 2018, it got changed to ONLY feature show pages and ads for apps, and episodes and clips can only be watched on the APP, this is just horrible, Nick.com has been killed that way. What a horrible way to end 2018 too :/ So there you have it, Nick.com! Also I noticed One Coarse Meal was airing at the time I was recording this...
