This new video on the Firefly Studios YouTube channel comes with a series of bombshell announcements including a new office, new engine, new acquisition and Nick’s newest (and most desperate) attempt to get his hands on some hardware upgrades.

After two decades of game development and production from our offices in Clapham Junction, Firefly Studios has finally moved and found a brand new home. While we – along with a lot of the industry – still operate on a partly remote basis, having a new office to spend time with the team has been a great way to kick off this new chapter of the Firefly story.

Speaking of new chapters, following several years and multiple releases of games as well as DLC, Firefly Studios is retiring the Vision Engine in favour of using Epic Games’ latest iteration of the Unreal Engine – UE5. The leap forward in graphical fidelity, the extensive technical support and wealth of industry-leading features will allow us to take core beloved elements of our games and elevate the entire package to new heights. Nevertheless, it will still take some time to fully unlock and engage the potential of this still fresh engine and create the games we all want to experience.

Accompanying this technical shake-up is an organisational one; Firefly Studios has been acquired by Devolver Digital. A world-renowned game publisher and friend of Firefly, Devolver acquired the studio in 2021 and has been supporting us in our activities and goals (as well as vice versa). With their background in championing indie games and our shared history, Devolver was a natural partner for our studio and is just another indication that Firefly’s achievements going forward will be bigger and better than ever.

With magnificent things on the horizon, fans of the Stronghold series will have plenty to look forward to. As always, stay tuned for more information about the Stronghold series and Firefly Studios.

The future of Firefly is bright.
