Metroid prime 4 is supposed to be a more ambitious entry in the series, but is this really the reason we haven’t seen anything from it?

We haven’t seen anything about the game for over 5 years now, but it turns out there may be a pretty important reason for that

Some people think that we haven’t seen anything yet because it got rebooted at some point back in 2019. It makes sense! But I have a few issues with it. Sure, This tells us why it’s been so long, but it doesn’t explain the lack of trailers. Also, the game was in development for 2 years before the reboot, and still there was nothing, so something weird was going on. _I_ reckon that they had an awesome idea at first and were excited to announce that it was finally in the works, but then things started to go downhill. Maybe there were unforeseen setbacks, development was taking longer than expected, or maybe their initial idea just wasn’t coming into fruition

Now, 4 years after the game was restarted, we obviously should see at least one trailer. Look at tears of the kingdom. That game got a teaser when it was only 1 year into development.
Technically, we’ve seen a ‘teaser’ but it’s literally just the logo with the number 4. Not much to go off really, but I bet some YouTubers have attempted to analyse what the number means.

However, there are actually some hints that point us towards what’s happened to this game.

The game started development with Bandai Namco, but it was eventually moved to retro studios, who are the original creators of Metroid prime. This may mean that what they had in mind is a bit of a shakeup for the series, however when developing with Bandai Namco, things started to stray a bit too far away from what makes Metroid Metroid, so they gave the work to the original creators, who know Metroid prime inside out. However, given it’s been so long since prime 3 on the wii, retro studios may have different staff who are unfamiliar with the series, hence the long wait time. For context, the first 3 prime games took only 2 or 3 years to develop. Sure, nowadays games are bigger making them harder to develop, but we’ve also got new technology that makes things easier. I think. I’m not a developer so don’t quote me on that
