What Happened To The Dongara Sprint?
32On this episode I "Dan" went up to Dongara/Port Denison for the long weekend. We have been doing this for the last 3 years to attend the Dongara sprint, a short sprint through the streets and headland at Port Denison. With a show and shine on Sunday and lots for the kids all weekend. this was a great event for the town bringing plenty of people in for the weekend. the local businesses must get a boost out of it.
This year it was cancelled about 3 weeks before the event was meant to go ahead. Being short notice and not being able to get our deposit back for accommodation we went anyway. my wife my boy and myself did the 3 hour drive north of Perth to the much quieter coastal town. With the sprint cancelled the town was quieter than normal. However a lot of people were in the same boat as us and came up for the weekend anyway. There were residents of the town not happy with the decision to can the sprint so they put on a cars n coffee on Sunday morning. And they had a great turnout. Cars from the local aria and beyond flocked in and put on a great display. It was great to see the community really coming together to make something of a bad situation.
