What Happens if You Try to Beat Pokemon Emerald With Only a Shuckle?

This Pokemon challenge run was pretty fun apart from the mindless grinding. Some commentary: The roxanne fight was almost impossible without learning bide at level 28. I'm pretty sure with prep you could do it much lower if you saved all potions, leppa and oran berries and locked roxanne's 3 pokemon down with encore lock.



Most of the fights you would spam toxic, strength, and rock tomb except for a few of them which were quite a bit harder.


First up is the Wattson fight. Wattson's Magneton has sonicboom which does a flat 20 damage and unfortunately Shuckle has a very low HP stat.

This fight took 10 minutes because of this problem. The other issue is the bide is basically useless because of the constant paralysis. You have to wipe his 3 pokemon and the super potions with constrict and wrap.


Next up was the Maxie 1 fight. You fight Maxie 3 times and this one was the only hard one. Between, sand-attack and confuse ray, this fight is seriously awful. The only redeeming factor is that rock tomb is super affective (when it hits) against zubat.



Flannery was another very difficult fight due to attract. I thought Flannery would be a sweep due to to Rock Tomb but both Camerupt Torkoal knew attract which considerably slowed the fight down. Between paralysis (body slam), healing shuckle, infatuation which seemingly immboilized me 2/3 turns, rock tomb having 80 accuracy, and constrict doing next to nothing, this fight was brutal. I think this was the longest fight.


Winona was very easy except for the first time around due to 1 very annoying move. You'll see why in the video.


The last brutally tedious fights were in the elite four. Ultimately you can just level up shuckle forever and buy infinite potions so this is always going to be beatable, but was fun to get through the elite four and see what was a problem and what was easy.
