Arsenal were English champions but they were yet to translate that success from domestic football onto the European stage. Their last European honour was a Cup Winners’ Cup win over Parma in 1994 and they had made the quarter finals of the European Cup / Champions League on only two occasions: 1972 and 2001. They slumped to a second round group stage exit in 2003. But what if this team – the team that hammered Inter Milan 5-1 later on in 2003 and were Invincibles in 2004 – qualified for the knockouts? Would they have won the tournament? Would they have added more Champions League titles? Would they have dominated England and Europe?
