Nagato, Gaara, Sasuke. These three names stand out to us. Three children who experienced a rather hard life. They hadn’t done anything wrong, but fate felt the need to crap on them as it had so many times before. After all, this was the world system. The shinobi world, these characters, their lives are all a byproduct of lingering hatred from a generation long ago, continuously nurtured and renewed with each passing generation. Each one of these ended up falling to darkness. Nagato’s drive for peace was smashed and replaced with a need for the greatest war ever to exist due to the fear of losing power by leaders. Gaara was born premature and innocent, in the arms of a loving mother, being subjected to weaponization by the only parent he would have left until the love he was born to represent suddenly became hatred and monstrosity. Sasuke was born close to his clan, full of love for his brother, and with simple dreams to protect people, only for circumstances within the village, as well as one loose cannon with too much pull in the council to force Itachi to destroy them all, leaving Sasuke alone without a clan, full of hatred for his brother, and with a singular dream born to destroy people and reform his clan. All of these stories could have been Naruto. Naruto himself was essentially born to be royalty, being the son of the Hokage, surrounded by love, full of potential. But the shinobi world saw fit to take away his love, to weaponize him, to kill his family, and to cast him out. But unlike the others, Naruto stayed true to who he was. What he was. And the love in his heart shined brightly. He struggled, yes. But he persevered until he changed not only his circumstances, but the way the world worked entirely. But what if it hadn’t been this way? What if Naruto gave up? What if he stopped believing. What if he became… a bad guy?
