You’re a detective and you got re-posted to Etowah, a small county in Alabama. A week before now, the Sheriff in the county’s police station had mysteriously disappeared. None of his deputies would step up into his position, fearing the doom of a similar fate. So, you’re there to replace him for a while and shed more light on the mystery. It was not like you also came there willingly, leaving your family behind. But it was an order from the top of the command chain. Disobeying it would have meant losing your job, at the very least. Regardless of what brought you to Etowah, you know you must find answers to the strange questions really quick if you want to see your family anytime soon.
It took you 2 days to set-up. But since it was a weekend, you had one more day to rest before you resume work on Monday, the next day. When you first stepped into the police station, the officers’ faces were teeming with fear and you could feel the bad vibe in the air. You called in your deputies to be briefed about the sheriff’s mystery case. And then it all began – the story of the elusive creature that had been stealing people and making them disappear without a trace. No one knew exactly what it was. But according to the horror stories recounted by your deputies, the monster lurked in a place where only a few dared to thread. That place is the abandoned mall next to the forest downtown. Inside it, they believed, is something terrifying and pure evil. Each time officers went scouting in the area, none of them would return except for one. Mysteriously, he also resigned a day after an almost fatal encounter.
That creepy scenario is just the tip of an iceberg in a world where the Cartoon cat would soon turn out to be real. But will you be able to solve the mystery and bring the elusive killer demon into the limelight of justice? Even if you’re able to find him, will you be able to contain the Cartoon cat and prevent his reign of terror from going horribly out of control? Will you be able to return to your family safe and sound, if at all, you end up completing your mission? Come on, guys. Let’s head back to the debriefing session with your subordinates and 5 of them were still telling you the same story. You were convinced but you wouldn’t want to leave anything to chance. What if all this was just a set-up by some godfathers trying to cover up their dirty work? What if the deputies were also in on it and the sheriff found out? So, to prevent the secret from becoming public, something had to be done to silence him, hence his fate? There were so many things to consider and it was too early to jump to conclusions. So, you called off the meeting until further notice. At the same time, you’ve also decided to go on a covert operation to investigate the case all by yourself.
The first thing you did was to track down the officer who was common in all the five stories narrated by the others. His name would still be included in the register. So, it shouldn’t be that hard to find. After a few days of inquiry, you finally met him in a pub somewhere in a nearby town, drinking himself to stupor. He just lost his job. Anyone could understand his grievances. But that was not the only thing that’s making him drink so much. He’s also trying to forget what he saw back at the mall. It took quite a long while to convince him. But in the end, he agreed to tell you all about what happened to him and the others.
“It was late in the night,” he explained. “I was on duty alongside the sheriff and four other police officers when we received a distress call about a 12-year-old boy who’s gone missing. The name of the boy was, uhm… Mike and it was said that he went out with his friend John, earlier that evening. But a few hours later, John came back covered in blood, with Mike nowhere to be found. When asked, he made mention of a huge rubber-like figure with four-fingered white gloves. That was the only thing he saw before he began to run but Mike… he wasn’t so lucky. Hearing this, the sheriff mustered up every man he could get and we all drove off to the scene. What we met was way more than we bargained for. One of the officers and I kept watch on the outside while the others broke through the chains at the entrance of the mall. After about 30 minutes, we began to hear screams and gunshots.
