Here's something that I have thought about for some time, and finally got the chance to try out.

A rumor I've heard for some time now is that Quan and Ethlyn are coded to Phinora Castle. If the castle is seized, then they will disappear like General Hannibal if his fiefdom is taken. As this video shows, they did not suffer that fate. Instead, they die immediately after Sigurd talks to the Phinoran elder.

Additionally, I killed Magorn just to show what happens if he's dead. Unsurprisingly, the cutscene behaves like he's still around.

Last but not least, I noticed that Quan and Ethlyn made no attempts to seize Phinora Castle. I had killed the units near the castle with Sigurd, and the Leonster couple will just stick around the castle entrance, never going in. I heard rumors that they will seize, making the castle green, and therefore the game cannot be beaten, but I did not see it here.
