Making ONLY Springalds in Age of Empires 4 is a way to shut down the enemies siege. While springalds are vulnerable to just about any other unit than siege, you can safely hide them behind walls as they're a siege unit that can shoot over the wall at your enemies. This allows you to play a long defensive game where you can drain the enemy of resources and launch a counter attack, provided you make enough walls.
