I cover exactly what a site is and whether or not you should get one on your website. The answer is simple - yes, you should get a sitemap. Not doing so hurts your website a ton when it comes to search engines, and it can prevent them from indexing your site entirely.
So, now that you know that you should have a sitemap how do you actually get one on your WordPress site? Well, that is easy! There are a few ways to do it, and I cover two of them in this video. The first and easiest way is by using the WordPress plugin Jetpack. Jetpack is developed by Automatic, the people behind WordPress, and it lets you get a site up and running by just clicking one checkbox. Jetpack does a lot of other awesome stuff on WordPress as well, so it is a must-have for any WordPress based site.
The second way to get a sitemap up and running on WordPress is via another plugin. This one is called 'Google XML Sitemap', and as the name implies, it allows you to set up an XML site for Google and other search engines. Doing is really simple. Just install the plugin and activate it. BOOM! You are done. You can now go to yoursite.com/sitemap.xml, and you will find a sitemap that is ready for Google, Bing, Ask.com, or even Yahoo to index!
