The F1 2025 season is just around the corner and before the season gets underway the F1 teams first have to go through Pre Season testing at Bahrain, but what is pre season testing and why is it important. Well in todays video we are going to be discussing just that as we look at what happens during testing and why it is important for the rookie drivers and also the drivers who have just changed teams such as Lewis Hamilton. We will also be looking at how pre season testing differs from shakedown tests and also tests in historical cars like we saw recently when Lewis Hamilton and Charles Leclerc were testing at Barcelona in the SF23 as well as at the Fiorano circuit.
Pre season is vitally important for the teams as they get to learn everything about their cars and learn what does work and they do need to work on. For the rookies pre season testing is vital because this is the first opportunity for them to complete race distance levels of running with competition on track. Until now most of them have only competed in a practice session where they complete approximately 20 laps.
In testing we will get to see whether Mclaren, Mercedes, Ferrari and Red Bull will be close in terms of competition or if one of them has stolen a march on the rest. Will Max Verstappen be able to retain his crown or will Lando Norris, Charles Leclerc, Lewis Hamilton or George Russell provide the competition. In general lap times are not too important in testing so don't get carried away if a backmarker sets the fastest time during a day.
