Think of it like a reverse kickstarter - pledge as little as a dollar every month, and get cool stuff on a regular basis.
I write the Galvanic Century and Shadow Decade steampunk and cyberpunk series of books, produce the Synesthesia Theatre and Working Class Creatives podcasts, publish RPG products through Taoscordian Games, and write interactive fiction. Only the books bring in any money, because I can sell them directly.

$5/month gets you exclusive special editions. And I mail out postcards!
At $10/month I mail out paperbacks to everybody who was funding while I was writing a given book.
