What is the oldest tree on Earth? Well, what if I told you these trees right here have been around since the beginning of when the Pyramids of Giza were first being built thousands of years ago… maybe even before they were constructed. These are the Great Basin Bristlecone Pines, a tree so resilient that if they get heavily damaged, small parts of the bark are able to keep the entire thing functioning. And their haunting shapes are reflective of the harsh conditions they’ve had to endure throughout their lives, ranging from high elevations to long freezing winters to strong winds. Yet they somehow make the best of their situations, with the oldest to have been discovered named Prometheus, which was almost 4,900 years old, that was until it was accidentally cut down by a researcher in 1964. Although Prometheus' sacrifice wasn’t in vain as he helped the general public become more aware of the Bristlecones, and that they needed to be protected. Currently, however, the oldest of these trees still living is named Methuselah and it is almost 4,800 years old… but you will never find it. The location is kept a secret to avoid vandalism, but it is somewhere in the White Mountain Range of California… So good luck finding it. Although you gotta admit for living in California it has lived a long time without stepping on a needle.
