It's believed that there are some certain points where different energies remain concentrated. Each of these points are called "Chakra" - a very old Sanskrit word which means 'wheel'. There are seven chakras which play an important role balancing and empowering the human body.

Root
Root chakra is located at the very end of spine, near tailbone. The role of this chakra is to connect all your energy to the earth which is called grounding. It is symbolised as a four-petaled lotus. When this is balanced, you feel a sense of independence in terms of human aspects related to financial solvency. And an overactive root chakra will cause anxiety and jitteriness.
Sacral
It is located at about two inches below the navel. It is symbolised as a six-petaled lotus. It is the source of creativity and helps us to enjoy the life on earth by creating new connections and accepting others. When balanced, you will enjoy the pleasurable things in life without overdoing them. however, if you enjoy doing things which aren't nourishing for your soul, then your chakra is likely out of balance.
Solar Plexus
This chakra is located in the navel region and extends up to the brestbone. It is symbolised as a ten-petaled lotus. It enhances the ability to be confident and to gain proper control over life. When this one is balanced, you feel sense of wisdom, confident and personal power. Overactive usage of this can make you feel quick to anger, greedy, lack of control, compassion or empathy.
Heart
It's located at the center of chest just above the heart. It empowers the ability to love, enhances compassion and increases kindness. It is symbolized by a lotus with twelve petals. Balanced heart chakra makes you to be able to equally feel love for yourself and others. You may start making unhealthy choices in the name of love when it's not balanced anymore.
Throat
This 5th chakra is located in between the collar bone. In controls the ability to speak the truth, raise voice and communicate. It is symbolized as a sixteen-petaled lotus. When your throat chakra is balanced, you will be able to speak with love, kindness and truth. Overactive usage might make it harder to communicate and express opinion truthfully.
Third-Eye
It locates right between the eyebrows. The role of this chakra is to open our mind to perceive the information beyond the material world. It is symbolised by a lotus with two petals. When balanced, this one enhances the power of imagination, intuition, wisdom and the ability to think and make decisions. But overactive third eye can lead to activities like tarot reading, astrology and paranormal experiences.
Crown
Crown chakra locates at the top of our head. A lotus with thousand multicolored petals symbolizes this chakra. It indicates the pure consciousness energy which helps to be connected spiritually. This energy is everywhere and in everything. You can feel it but it can't be seen. It connects you to the entire universe. This energy is infinite and thus can't be over-actively used.
