What it's like serving on a state-of-the-art Royal Navy destroyer
839HMS Defender is a state-of-the-art destroyer whose main objective is to defend the UK's Carrier Strike Group from air attack.
Forces News was invited on board during HMS Defender's visit to Liverpool, to learn more about the Type 45 destroyer's role in the modern-day Royal Navy, as well as to gain insight into the sailors' experiences in supporting its mission.
Life on board is busy and varied, this year HMS Defender has already sailed to Norway twice, conducted weapons trials in the Outer Hebrides and escorted several Russian units near UK waters.
