0What the hell is responsibility in MTG? What's this? What is that? Responsibility and accountability? Self control? Things we don't want to hear? We want to be good stewards in life and we also want to have fun. I know some people who prioritized fun and could not afford much outside of magic the gathering. I knew a guy who let his fun with magic the gathering become an addiction that was uncontrolled he lost his family and become homeless. I knew another guy who spent half his months wages who was on SSI and bought six $80 booster boxes just to open a $12 card he could of bought from the LGS. I am bringing stories that are both extreme examples and also are true. I hear of people saying people are not that dumb. but hear I am, telling you a story about two people I witnessed ruin there life for a game. A GAME! People don't talk about the extremes people go through to participate in a social game. to be the dude who opened up all them packs. to be the person to live your wildest dream. Now in today's world, Youtube and twitch, Tic-Tok and so on can help recuperate some of your losses in these stories. But the mindset should be more fiscal responsibility. NOT to lose to a game in terms of real life. Some people are not mentally equipped to handle addiction in the game of magic the gathering. in fact, Wizards of the coast love people who pad their wallets, but both Wizards, you and I cannot tell people who to live their lives. We can't make decisions for other people. I think in cases like these I think it is important to be vocal on being responsible people. You can't look at a person without knowing them and say or ask - "Are you making the best decision?" But as people we can ask ourselves that question. There have been times people new to the game will ask advice from another customer like me, about products to get them or a child. I always ask them whats their budget they are looking to spend and what format they are trying to get into? Because I gaining knowledge can help people make better decisions. especially when you take in account stupid little facts like, if someone wants to get into commander, they are looking into a Precon, they will want sleeves. The prices add up. as a community like us, we can be open about our spending habits. We can talk about what we can and cannot afford. But we are also in control of our addictions to the game. Patience is both our enemy and friend. our enemy because we want stuff now. our friend because we can save if we are willing to wait.
