What To Expect In Metroid Prime 4
During the Switch Era, Nintendo has brought a new Renaissance to many fan-favorite franchises. Zelda is in a brand new era with Breath of the Wild and Breath of the Wild 2, Pokemon has finally been brought to home console with Sword and Shield, and that’s not to mention the many Mario series that have experienced a revival. And yet, there’s almost no news of Metroid. A series that was once a Titan of the Nintendo Lineup, is no longer just taking a back seat but has been left at the gas station altogether. What’s weird, is that we almost had a resurgence, with the announcement of Metroid Prime 4, and the release of the first 2D Metroid title (Metroid: Samus Returns for 3DS) in over 10 years. Yet, even now 3 years after the announcement of Prime 4, there’s still no trailer, no gameplay, just a logo, and some rumors on Twitter. This begs the question: was this the original plan? Well, probably not. Firstly, as far as we know, Nintendo has had to completely scrap their progress, since it wasn’t up to scratch. That’s a lot of work that has to be redone. What’s more, is that many of the original developers behind the Prime titles have long since left Retro Studios. As far back as 2008, soon after the release of Metroid Prime 3, lead designer Mark Pacini, engineer Jack Mathews, and art director Todd Keller all left to pursue ventures elsewhere. While the Prime series is now back in the hands of its creator, there are likely more new hands than familiar ones working on Prime 4. Whether that’s good or not is up to you. Let us know what you think. So, fast forward to the present day, What can we expect from Metroid Prime 4? Well, it’s hard to say without any concrete details since Nintendo has been so tight on information, but there are some things we can assume.
