Geoff Keighley hosted the first Game Awards in 2014. Since then, the live show has become a key gaming industry event, with over 118 million global livestream views in 2023. Part of this increase in viewership is due to The Game Awards having more than just award announcements, and the show features game trailers and celebrity appearances. Eligible nominees for the 2024 Game Awards are games released between Nov. 18, 2023, and Nov. 22, 2024.
The Game Awards nominees are selected by a jury of over 100 game media outlets worldwide. Each voting outlet provides a list of the top five choices for each category, which are then compiled to determine the year's nominees. Finally, winners are selected by a final weighted vote of 90% jury and 10% fans. Gamers can vote on the Game Awards website until 6pm Pacific on Dec. 11, 2024, the day before the live show.
