If you follow any D&D creators, you've seen an uproar in the last week about the OGL. I'm not a D&D creator but I can speak to what's going on and how WotC (Wizards of the Coast) is dramatically mishandling the situation.
The reality may simply be that D&D is a popular thing that can't make anyone a ton of money.
