Pac-Man World 2 is the sequel to Pac-Man World for the PS1 (which I've never played, since I don't have a PS1).
In this game, the ghosts, Inky, Blinky, Pinky and Clyde, sneak into Pac-Village at night to cause trouble. Pinky even seem to have a crush on Pac-Man somehow. They all end up at the center of the village where the great tree stands, and in the tree they see the five sacred Golden Fruit! Seeing this an opportunity to have some fun, they pick the fruit, throw them around and play with them. But then the ground starts to shake and they see something emerge from underneath the roots of the great tree. The ancient demonic ghost Spooky was imprisoned under that tree centuries ago, but the ghosts accidentally freed him by picking the Golden Fruit. Spooky then distributes the Golden Fruit among the ghosts and leads them away from the village. He now plans to destroy the Pac-People once he has gathered his power!
The next morning, Pac-Man wakes up and goes outside. He is immediately approached by the Pac-Professor who tells him about what transpired during the night. It is now up to Pac-Man to find the ghosts, take back the Golden Fruit and put Spooky back in his prison!
